Workflow action: leave a comment

In this article, we’ll explain how the “Leave a Comment” action works in workflows and how to use it to add comments to records automatically.

This action allows you to automatically leave comments in the timeline using workflows. It supports all standard formatting options, as well as the ability to dynamically mention team members using macros.

Let's move on to setting up the workflow

We need to select a trigger; let's choose, for example, “Webhook event occurred”:

Next, select “Create a new record.” Then choose “Leave a comment”:

This action includes the following features:

  • Tag a manager using @, or the person in charge of the record

  • Edit text

  • Add a link

  • Macros are available from a folder (or webhook), depending on your trigger

  • Pin a comment in the timeline.

How to use this feature:

  • Leave a comment with an urgent mention of the manager if a deal entering the workflow meets critical criteria, such as size or priority

  • When creating a record from data received via a webhook, be sure to include all details in the comment field rather than mapping each field individually.

Add the "End workflow" step and activate the automation:

Let's make a test request and see how it turned out:

Well done! Your workflow will now leave the desired comment in the timeline of the respective record.
